Oh Summer...
Here we go, another summer. Except is not summer yet "officially" anyways, here we have spring, unlike FL lol, so it rains a lot and there are plenty of storms. And Alex can't go outside every day and play :( so he decides to drive everyone crazy or find stuff to do.. except you never know what he is going to do, he might start playing with pots and pans, he might aligned all his trucks in his room, he might make me change his dvd 100 times today so he can walk out of the room and go to another to watch his IPAD O-o.. which drives me insane. There has been a few days that he has gone out side:
He is most happy when he is outside, he loves to play with water, he loves to wonder (he has to be watched at all times), he loves to follow butterflies, he loves when dad grabs his guitar and lets him play with the strings.... OH summer, when we also have the meltdowns and the lack of structure, the lack of schedule and the anxiety ... the fear that he will forget everything that he has learned, that he stops saying his abc's and stops repeating words... *sigh* you just help him along and remind him every day, and hope that he doesn't take 5 steps back, and that he continues to stay happy.

Saying his colors!!
So we had a bad night the night before last. He woke up screaming and didn't really calm down until an hour later when he fell asleep. When he woke up yesterday morning and we were getting dressed I told him that he was going to wear green... then he started murmuring something, and I am trying to get his jeans on and he looks at me and starts saying "green" "white" "blue" but he said kind of like boo but it was close enough also "pink" which he enjoys saying more than the other colors, and also "purple" and "black".
So this morning I knew I had some cards so when he was ready i would work on it with him, and I showed him and he looked at me and knew what they were so instead of saying it after me, he grabbed them from me and sat on the floor in his room and started putting them in order and repeating them, you have to listen carefully cause he still saying it a little bit rough around the edges lol
And for some reason, he says Pink, and I didn't have any pink lol he likes saying it I think.
The point is, for a child that wasn't saying anything a month ago, his doing great, first he started spelling, then he started saying the abc's and now he is saying his colors... am a proud mommy of an autistic child :)

Abc's and Ipad
Alex has made great progress in school and at home. The teacher has been concentrating in letters and words with him because he spelled "Winnie the Pooh" last month, she scrambled the letters to see if he would do it again, and of course he did.
So lately she has been singing him the abc's and his been pretty good at continuing when she stops, she even made a video of it and showed it to me. So I came home, and I thought, how can I make it better, how can I encourage him to keep going. Well, the Ipad has helped a lot already so it only made sense that I would keep going with it. But I didn't want to give him anything boring cause otherwise he would not follow along with it. So I downloaded an app that signs the abc's, which he loves music so it only made sense.
Two days later and Alex is singing the abc's!!! his only doing like the first half of it lol but he is totally responding to it and he finds it fun!
And when grandma insisted he do it again, he told her no. So not only do we get him to sing the abc's but his interacting with her by responding to her prompting lol.

"Winnie The Pooh"
I just got an e-mail from Alex's teacher... She sent me a picture of the words "Winnie The Pooh" and told me that my son had spelled it, there was a letter missing, so he improvised. And only a parent of an Autistic child would know how great and how proud we feel right now.
From a baby who stopped making eye contact, who would scream bloody murder in crowds, from being completely out of control, to now following directions, listening when you speak, to spelling!! Even tho his non verbal (we totally think it's there, but it hasn't clicked yet or his too lazy to speak) this is a huge break through for him, because we can use that as a form of communication for him .
This totally made my day!
